offers a medically based training to trainers and influencers who do not
hold a recognised medical or nursing qualification in the following areas,

Core
Team members
have started up and run extremely successful NHS Outreach projects and
have extensive experience of working with hard to reach populations in
rapidly changing, innovative ways.
We have experience of arranging the UK’s first campaign on local
radio, advertising Family Planning Services, highlighting the free condom
supply and information about STIs.
· A subsequent article explaining
this was published in the British Journal of Family Planning, 1995.
·
Core training team members have taught the subject of
contraception, sexual health, men’s health and drugs education in
clinic, educational and non-clinic settings to members of the public of
all ages, as well as to people within their field and profession, from
the 'why we say, what we say' angle, for many years.

Helen
Knox

· Helen trained as a State
Registered Nurse at the Westminster Hospital, London
in 1975, before working as a Senior Staff Nurse at St Thomas’
Hospital A&E Dept, London and later as a District
Nursing Sister in west London. For over a decade, she has worked
in the field of contraception and sexual health - From 1991-2001 she worked
in the field of contraception and sexual health as the UK’s
first Outreach Instructing Clinical Nurse Specialist in Contraception
and Sexual Health, in south London.
·
In 1994 she was a finalist in the Nursing Times/3M
National Nursing Awards for Innovation in Nursing and Midwifery
for exceptional work in expanding the outreach work related to Family
Planning and Sexual Health.
·
Helen has extensive experience in teaching contraception
and sexual health to the public as well as her own profession. She works
in Family Planning Clinics and teaches in men’s prisons, homeless
hostels, drug agencies, probation centres, schools, colleges, civic centres
and to sex workers - as well as Schools of Nursing and Universities. Her
teaching style is uniquely open and frank - with no holds barred.
· She has two innovation
awards, and is author and publisher of SEXplained… Books,
founder and Managing Director of Sexplained Ltd and also of Knox
Publishing.

and Abilities
Since gaining the ENB 901 Family Planning Certificate Karen has worked
extensively with young people as a family planning nurse in a variety
of settings - including a regular Family Planning clinic, a joint FP&
GUM clinic and in schools.
Experience
· She has considerable experience
in the field of Sexual Health Education, having first become involved
in developing a whole school programme with a spiral curriculum whilst
working as a School Nurse in south London. This developed to involve staff
training for both teachers and health professionals.
· Karen is an active member
of the Sexual Health Advisory Group - South London and was involved in
the innovative establishment of Mock Sexual Health Clinics as well as
continuing the development of interactive sex education programmes with
pupils.
· She produced a Sexual
Health Education teaching pack for use by School Nursing and Family Planning
colleagues.
· As an Independent Sexual
Health Education Consultant she works in partnership with schools to develop
Sexual Health Education Programmes and also lectures regularly on the
‘Sexual Health Needs of Young People’.
· For the past two years
she has taken her Family Planning and Sexual Health Education skills to
Romania to work with the staff of the Hawkesley Christian Romania Trust
and to lecture to Nurses in both Bucharest, Sibiu and Medias.
· To further enhance her
teaching skills, she is studying for a Diploma in Higher Education [Antenatal
Education] with Luton University for retrospective validation and conversion
of her Antenatal Teaching Accreditation with the National Childbirth Trust.
· She is currently working
as an Administering Nurse in a ‘Nurse only’ clinic in south
London and teaches Natural Family Planning and Fertility Awareness.

Alan
Wood:
· Alan Wood trained as a
Nurse in 1980.
· He practised as a District
Nurse for several years in inner-London. Since 1990 he has specialised
in training, men's health and sexual health.
· He recently retired after co-ordinating
sexual health education in Lewisham and Southwark Schools in south-east
London for many years.
· Additionally he practices
as a family planning nurse, Brook nurse, clinic nurse at one of only two
well men clinics in London and as a psychosexual therapist at Guy's Hospital.
· He also completed
his PGCE(A) course at the University of Surrey.

Barbara

Director
of Community and Learning Disabilities Nursing Studies, The University

· Barbara has deep and wide-ranging
experience in this field. Her introduction was in the Health Service as
a Health Visitor between 1976 and 1987.
· As a midwife she was involved
in delivering maternity care to many young parents and has engaged in
parentcraft education in a variety of community settings.
· Moving into Further Education
she incorporated sex and relationship education into her programmes. In
1992 she entered Nurse Education at the University of Salford where she
now holds the post of Senior Lecturer / Director of Community and Learning
Disabilities Nursing Studies.
· Here she leads Community
and Sexual Health Diplomas and Degrees, including Family Planning and
Reproductive Sexual Health Education.

Vicky

· Vicky trained as a Nurse
in 1968. She has worked as a Practice Nurse, an Instructing Nurse Specialist
in Contraception and Sexual Health and Sex Educator.
· She was Chair of NANCSH
(National Association of Nurses for Contraception and Sexual Health) and
has sat on numerous UK Govt. Department of Health, and other advisory
groups.
· She was invited to be
the first Associate Member of the UK Faculty of Family Planning and Reproductive
Health.
· To her credit, she has
written many published articles relating to sexual and reproductive health,
along with a chapter on Cervical Cytology/Screening in a women’s
health publication for professionals.
· She is a consultant to
her local health authority’s Teenage Pregnancy Initiative and is
on an editorial board of a journal for health professionals.
· She trains nurses in
cervical smear taking techniques and is actively involved with school
‘sex and relationship education’ programmes in her locality.
· She has also worked as
an advisor on the FPA telephone Helpline, fronting questions from the
public and professionals related to contraception and sexual health matters.

Tony Gray is an enthusiastic Defence Medical Services
Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Genito Urinary Medicine and Sexual
Health with more than eight years experience of providing expert nursing
care to clients with a range of sexual health conditions, concerns, cultures
and sexualities. He has a further eleven years experience of general nursing
in ward and operational environments all with the British Army Defence
Medical Services both at home and abroad.

He trained as an Enrolled Nurse General (ENG) in 1986
with the British Army School of Nursing at The Cambridge Military Hospital,
Aldershot and The British Military Hospital Hong Kong. In 1994 he moved
to Sexual Health and trained as a Defence Medical Services Clinical Nurse
Specialist in Genito Urinary Medicine and Sexual Health. Gaining English
National Board Qualifications in Genito Urinary Medicine and HIV/AIDS
Nursing (ENB 276 & 934). In 1997 he converted his ENG qualification
to Registered General Nurse (RGN) through the University of Surrey.

In 1999, Tony as Publicity Officer (1997-99) of the Genito
Urinary Nurses Association (GUNA) joint published a paper with the committee
of GUNA in the International Journal of STD & HIV (Sutton A, Kingsland
T, Ross S, Burke M, Gray T, Jenkins J (1999) Nursing in Genitourinary
Medicine: 10 years on from the Monk Report. International Journal of STD
& AIDS. 10: 539-542)

He currently is Lead CNS with The Department of Sexual
Health, The Princess Mary’s Hospital Cyprus. In which he established
the new and only NHS style GU & Sexual Health Service on the Island
in 1999.
· During this time he has
liaised closely with all Defence Medical Services Primary Care Groups,
the Police both military and civilian, local public health officials and
local owners of clubs, bars and cabarets, which employ commercial sex
workers.
·
He independently manages client caseloads both from the
British Armed Forces, their dependants and local civilian entitled communities,
including clinical and sexual history taking, patient examination, diagnosis,
treatment, health education and health advising. Incorporating males and
females covering diverse cultural backgrounds and sexualities.
·
Tony returned to the United Kingdom late in 2002
to commence duties as Lead CNS in The Harrison Clinic of GU Medicine at
Frimley Park NHS Trust. He is undertook his BSc (Hon) in Health
Promotion with Thames Valley University,
in 2003. He left the Armed Services on completion of 22 years in early
2005, to continue to work in the field of Genito Urinary Medicine &
Sexual Health.
