Following
an all-too-brief sell-out run of The Nutty Professionals
earlier this year, Britain’s best comedy duo, Eddie Nestor and
Robbie Gee, return to Theatre Royal Stratford East with a new and improved
version: The Oddest Couple.
The
Oddest Couple tells the tale of Nora and Iggy Norant, a suburban
couple in a stale marriage. Nora seeks life, love and laughter - which
the audience will no doubt provide! Along the way she meets firm favourites
from Eddie and Robbie’s previous sketches: the Butu Boys, the
Ragga Girls and the grumpy old men Cornelius and Alphonse. With all
the characters, male and female young and old, played by Eddie and Robbie,
The Oddest Couple is fast-paced comedy at its best.
Eddie
Nestor is a recognisable face from TV (he played Nurse Cyril
James in Casualty), but it’s probably his deliberately provocative
tones on the daily BBC London Drivetime show which are most familiar
to listeners…
Robbie Gee is also well-known from past work including
Guy Ritchie’s Snatch, Desmond’s (he played Lee, the Peckham
Prince), all five series of BBC2’s The Real McCoy and, most recently,
as Roly Crouch in BBC1’s The Crouches.
The
Oddest Couple will be directed by Karena Johnson (Jerwood Young
Directors Award-winner 2003) and designed by Libby Watson (Urban Afro
Saxons, Funny Black Women on the Edge).
